The ninth weekend of the Kenya Premier League (KPL) is the most exciting and could not have been better than this.
Among other interesting match-ups it is the first time that the current champions Sofapaka are taking on former champions Mathare United and promises to have all the ingredients of a top of the bill encounter.
Tomorrow's Sofapaka versus Mathare United fixture at Nyayo National Stadium will probably be the most attractive weekend tie.
United will be under pressure to end what has been clearly a slow start to the league with only two matches won so far.
Going for them, the Francis Kimanzi side can boast of a side that has been getting better with every game. This was easily discernible in the way they dispatched off KCB 3-1 last weekend.
It was also a chance for Jacob Keli to show what he can do and if his performance is anything to go by. He easily remains one of the most integral players at United.
Adding to the excitement of Sunday's match is the fact that United will be up against a Sofapaka side who seem to have overcome some early season hiccups that ended in two unexpected defeats and is hungry for success.
Sofapaka have been in an unfamiliar position in the standings all season and will be in desperate mood to win as they seek to go back to the top of the standings.
Ugandan-born coach Sam Ssimbwa has added flair of excitement to the defending champions and facing an equally skilled side should bring out the best in both teams.
Lead attack
Patrick Kagogo, John Baraza and Abbas Akiyemi should lead Sofapaka's attack.
Leaders Ulinzi, who survived a scare against Sofapaka last weekend, will be at Thika Municipal Stadium tomorrow in what is considered hostile enemy territory.
Thika have had their worst start of the season so far and will be in no mood to drop points especially at home. Last weekend's 2-2 tie away to Western Stima was a good indication for Thika.
Today, focus will be in Nakuru where Gor Mahia take on Red Berets at Afraha Stadium.
Past history should give Gor hope, as their opponents have not been lucky at home. They have already lost twice there to Western Stima and Nairobi City Stars.
George 'BlackBerry' Odhiambo has rediscovered his scoring touch and all eyes will be on him to lead K'Ogalo to another important win.
But for Caleb Okuku of Berets, it will be a desperate search for something positive. For this, he has some exciting players in for
