National Oil-sponsored Ian Duncan will be out to extend his run to two consecutive victories as the KCB SME Banking Rally heads to Eldoret this weekend.
But his Dalbit Petroleum Alistair Cavenagh and Carl Tundo will not make it any easier for the five times former Kenya champion.
Tundo and Cavenagh have two Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) titles under their belts and are determined to uphold the now trendy 'EVO9 Craze' which continues to scare Subaru N-series drivers.
Duncan, who has come to grips with his new Mitsubishi Evolution 9, drove like a man possessed to win the muddy rally in Athi River last month. He leads the KCB KNRC 2011 with 130 points, while Tundo- in an ex-Lola Valarque EVO9 is 10 points adrift.
Defending Champion Cavenagh, lies third with 80 points followed by Ugandan Jas Mangat on a similar tally.
On Saturday, the event co-sponsored by iWay Africa, National Oil, Pelican, Car TRack, ALS and Keringet, will run a spectator stage at Eldoret showground from 2pm, followed by an overnight parc ferme at Sikh Union before restarting on Sunday morning with nine competitive sections and finish at 4pm. The 2WDs will tackle six stages.
Cavenagh, who won the season opening tour in Voi, was left to rue his exit in the Athi River plains last month.
"I retired (in Athi River) after altering my line over the crest of a brow due to a spectator car which got stuck in the way and we landed in a large wash away which ripped the front left hand wheel off," recalled Cavenagh.
Best level
Finishing second overall for the second time running was all good for Tundo who is looking forward to another good result.
One of the drivers to watch will be Ugandan Jas Mangat who is smarting from third overall in Athi River last month, his best on Kenyan soil.
"The KNRC has possibly the best level of competition in the region. In the past, we entered two or three day rallies (ARC), where the emphasis was on preserving the car while being quick. But in the KNRC, it's one big sprint," explained Mangat.
While the big bulls will be fighting for top honours, the battle of divisions is also anticipated to unlock bitter rivalry from behind the scenes.
After visiting the top ten for the first time in Athi River, Charles Hinga of Oilibya Racing will be out to make his presence felt again, hopefully to cling onto his division two lead.
Hinga finished seventh overall in Athi River and will be fighting to eclipse fast rising Onkar Rai and Jasmeet Chana of CRS Motorsports who are placed second and third in KNRC division 2. In Division Three, leader Ramesh Vishram also hopes to maintain his dogged campaign.

While having so much resources and ways to become extremely rich as a country Kenya do not use its potential but rather share its wealth that was gifted to it by God, between several people, and while there are a lot of poor people there some people in Kenya lika https://tuko.co.ke/171836-wow-kenyas-richest-male-musician-parades-his-wealth.html show there whole money publicly.
