Just like in the past, Pulse and Flame Entertainment collaborated and hosted the biggest beach party at Big Tree to usher in the New Year musically, write Pius Cheruiyot and David Odongo
Anticipation runs high. The world holds its breath...Seconds to midnight, millions throughout the world are united in bidding a collective farewell to the departing year, and expressing joy and hope for the year ahead.
At the Big Tree Hotel in Mombasa, the Pulse crew and star-studded musical cast unveils performances, balloons, confetti to a colourful pyrotechnic display to hundreds pulsaters. A 10 minute fireworks display leaves mouths open, the skyline was turns into different hues with the dazzling lights and bustling energy as revellers scream their voices hoarse. Sparkling silver rays shoot out from The Big Tree Hotel lighting up the skyline with an impressive array of colours from the fireworks.
Right from the start, emcee Philipo tickles the crowd with funny jokes as he welcomes stars for the night. Kicking off the party is Bamzigi, the self-proclaimed African Superman who seems not to have lost his magic and flow as he delivers an energetic performance.
Bamzigi wows with Bounce and Mizuka before bowing out for Amani dancers to electrify the crowd. The dancers are joined by Amani on the well-lit state-of-the art stage. And Ogopa DJ's princess saunters on stage.
The multi-coloured moving lights below the glass stage glows on Amani making her and dancers shimmer throughout the show. Radiating in different hues, the songstress performs renditions of Tonight and Bad Boy among others songs.
Next steps up Pilipili, who once again proves he is the chilli of Kenyan music industry. Clad in a fitting shirt, jeans and sneakers, the Flame Entertainment and Chilli Inc singer does not disappoint.
He thrills alongside fast-rising female singer Reina stablemate. With Pilipili's smooth vocals and Reina's sensual and edgy vocals, the performance proves a hit with the crowd. Inviting fans to dance and sing with them on stage, Pilipili instantly become the crowd's darling.
Among the crowd are sexily dressed models distributing Pulse merchandise and soft drink Verve in plastic cups as Vemma honcho CJ looks on. The models and CJ even distribute trendy new thongs in different colours and sizes branded Verve to female partygoers.
Soon,the party goes a notch higher as MC Philipo introduces Jaguar onstage. The self-proclaimed king of assets entertains with his latest single, Kigeugeu and Vuka Border.
Ogopa Deejays singer Kenzo, who happens to be celebrating his birthday also marks a comeback as he thrills with a new single and Mama Milka.
As Kenzo bows out French Boy takes over the mic and thrills with Hey DJ, Bouje, Heppi and Moto Moto. As the performance fire burns brighter, lovebirds Mustapha and Marya steps up on stage and do not disappoint. Their show is marked with intimate moves and touches as crowd cheers on.
As they step down, Mombasa's finest, Cannibal raises the tempo with his hits just before the showstopper of the night Nonini brings the roof down. The Genge Godfather proves he is a force to reckon with as he thrills, backed up with Mfalme Wa Ilala, Chidi Benz from Tanzania and Lady B. He even called upon P-Unit for an encore on Kare.
In the VIP tent where free alcohol and soft drinks flows, politician Stanley Livondo is chilling with celebs although he is heavily guarded. Avril, Panda and Akothee of Akothee Tours from Mombasa chills with Mustapha and his girlfriend who seem inseparable.
On stage, DJ Klash goes on rampage with illest mixes as the party goes on. The crowd parties hard until sunrise as the Klash drops hit after hit. Sunrise at the beach creates magnificent view on the ocean horizon as the Verve beach party crowd seems not surprised but rather enjoying the view.
